Company Ethos
Davis General Contracting is a residential builder constructing and restoring houses over the past 30 years in Palm Beach, Lost Tree Village, Jupiter Island and neighboring ocean front communities. In our view, the most important component necessary in executing anything from a simple thought to a finished house is the environment and culture surrounding its creation. We understand the design process is a collaborative one between the Owner, Architect and Builder and is non-linear and often not easily mapped out. As such, we are quick to adapt and malleable in our approach to incorporating these ideas into the work as they develop at any point as the design process unfolds. This ensures these new and evolving ideas and details will be seamlessly integrated into the project. We create a culture for ideas to grow into constructible details.
The above process has become second nature to us. We simultaneously look at each detail as though through a microscope and from a 100,000 foot point of view to see how each component relates to the big picture. This multi-focus approach helps us completely understand the designs and intentions of the owner, architect, designers and engineers and further how to best incorporate them into the work. We carefully consider all facets of a design before we proceed with its construction, thereby ensuring it will perform as designed.
We invest our efforts in a select few of the best projects available to us at any given time, so we are able to provide intense personal involvement in all parts of the design and construction. We demand from ourselves full attention to each and every detail and idea throughout the process. We always arrive at the best possible product because we demand the best from ourselves. It’s our internal self-worth and unwavering passion for perfection that drives us forward.
DGCC dedicates a team solely to the construction of each house we build including a project manager, a superintendent and additional support personnel as required. Our involvement with every house we build becomes personal, and we find ourselves taking ownership and inspiring each person crafting the project to do the same. The most complex and difficult houses have been the most fun to build. Our personal involvement creates an “hour-glass” effect, funneling all ideas that come in from design professionals, the owner and us into a cohesive plan before sending it out to the craftsman actually performing the work. Each new decision relies on the previous ones so that everything becomes connected as the project comes together at its completion.
Importantly also, we look forward to the new people we get to collaborate with. Part of the reason we have become the builders we are is the high caliber of professionals we have had the privilege to work with and learn from. The exhilaration of the first planning sessions continues to inspire us. From getting to know everyone, to forming a new team, to meshing with these creative individuals and beginning to perform together, the stages of team development are always exciting. Knowing that our contributions are adding to the project’s success is wonderfully rewarding. We know we can make a project go smoother and finish better and faster. This is what we do, and we’re very good at it!
As a final thought, while we are competitive, we are likely not the cheapest contractor. If you are sick and in need of a doctor you will look for the best qualified doctor to help you, not the cheapest and least competent to chart your path back to health. When flying you certainly would not search out the cheapest paid and least experienced pilot for your plane. We always negotiate with all the project subcontractors and materials suppliers for the best price but not at the expense of poor quality and delays to the work.
I hope I have conveyed in words some sense of what motivates our work from the moment we become involved, I know we are better builders than I am a writer. I would like to thank you for bringing us into any project you have; we are already working on it.
Hugh Davis
